Monday - Game 1 - Let the games begin

Our campers were greeted this morning to a brisk cool morning - it was 'record' lows in the Fort Myers area (they said it was 28 or so for a low - the schools close down here when it gets that cold). They postponed the start of the games about an hour to let the sun come out and warm up the day.
The previous night - Lee "Stinger" Stange and Tony Oliva were announcing their team and our favorite campers were drafted (we believe potentially first and second round picks) by this coaching tandem. PB was thrilled with the choice, "Lee has busted my chops about 3 or 4 times and basically after this week I will have less 'behind' with Lee as my coach, and Tony O, what you can you say about him that others have not said before."
Game 1 featured Dick Bremer as the starting pitcher for the "Cuban Comets". The Comets started off in the field. PB was patroling Right Center field (they play four outfielders here) and MW ended up playing at 1B. The Comets spotted the other team 6 runs in the top of the first inning (brutal to watch). A combination of bad fielding and a few nice hits ending up in a disaster inning of sorts for the Comets. In the bottom of the third inning (let by base hits by PB and MW) the Comets scored three runs to cut the lead in half. In the bottom of the fourth they added in another three to tie the game. Bremer still pitching strong threw a 1-2-3 top of the fifth. The Comets scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth and Bremer finished off the game with a complete game (7 innings) and the Comets won their first game 7-6.

Our favorite campers:
PB - 2 for 2, BB, Run
MW - 2 for 3, Run, RBI, 3 excellent 'scoops' at first (The Comets played solid defense after the first inning)

MW had this to say, "It was a nice first game, we played well after the first inning. It felt good to get out there and swing the bat."

Even Ron Gardenhire stopped by to 'scout' the Comets.
