Monday - Game 2 - Comets shooting for the stars....
After grabbing lunch it was brought to the attention of PB that he would be starting game 2. The weather has warmed up nicely and at the game's first pitch it was close to 60 degrees. PB said this before the game, "I just want to get some confidence by throwing strikes and not walking a lot of batters, it should be a lot of fun." Well PB started off the top of first inning by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to get the guy on third in for the first run of the game. Comets are out to a lead. PB started off the first two innings pitching strong giving up only one hit, one walk, and it included three strikeouts. Going into the bottom of the third, PB walked two batters but labored through it to hold the 1-0 lead. The top of the fifth is when the Comets started putting together some hits and scored 3 more runs. With the score 4-0 PB pitched a nice fifth after struggling in the fourth again - but held the other team without scoring. The Comets broke through with 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by base hits by PB and MW and rout was on. PB headed to the mound in the bottom of the 7th with a 12-0 lead. A leadoff basehit, followed by a crushing double, and a hit doomed the shutout - PB finished up the inning after giving up three runs to preserve the 12-3 win for the Comets.
Out favorite campers:
PB: 1 for 2, BB, SF, 2 Runs, RBI
MW: 2 for 4, 1 Run, 3 RBI
PB's Pitching Line: 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 6 BB, 6 K's
PB had this to say after the game, "I felt good pitching but disappointed with amount of walks. I couldn't spot my fastball and was not confident with my breaking pitches - but overall I was very happy with my performance and my teammates were great in the field."
The Comets are 2-0 heading into tomorrow's doubleheader - Let's see if they can keep up the wins as they face the rest of the competition.
