Tales of the (mis)adventures of playing some baseball in Fort Myers, FL while pretending to be a real ballplayer in a Minnesota Twins uniform.

Tuesday - Game 3 & Game 4
Well before game 3 - PB and MW found Bert Blyleven and made sure they got a picture of him before the week is out. Bert goes from field to field checking out the play and has this clipboard where all he does is keep track of "fines" that will be levied at Kangaroo Court (which is held on Tuesday and Friday). The weather has continued to warm up and this morning it is about 50 degrees at first pitch. A soft throwing doctor from Canada was throwing and the Comets were ready to hit 'em. But that is what they were hoping for - the soft throwing righty ended up pitching a 5 hit shutout and the Comets lost 6-0. The only highlight came is when PB launched a fly ball over the left fielder's head and PB's teammate was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first. It was the only true scoring opportunity for the Comets.
PB: 1 for 2, 2B
MW: 0 for 2
Game 4 - the afternoon game started and the weather was simply beautiful - getting close to 60 degrees with bright sunny skies. MW was the starting pitcher for the game - MW noted, "I have not pitched in about 28 years." The Comets came out playing and in the 2nd inning - highlighted by a PB single and a MW sacrifice fly they scored 7 runs to give MW a nice 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the third PB made a nice catch in right center field of a low line drive, PB said, "It was nice to finally be able to make a play in the outfield - I want to help out my pitcher the best I can." As PB headed into the dugout after the inning, Tom Brunansky commented to PB, "Nice Catch...Dickhead!" (but with a huge smile on his face). Brunansky was one of the coaches for the other team. The Comets added 2 in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one more in the sixth (PB led off that inning with a double). The Comets were leading 11-3 going into the bottom of the seventh - MW went to the mound to finish off the game - but he couldn't quite do it - a couple hitters battled him tough fouling off a number of pitches. The bases were loaded after MW walked the last hitter he faced and the score was 11-5 - Lee Stange came out to the mound and told him, "Son - you pitched a hell of a game - now go play first, Bremer get in here." Dick Bremer came into the game to finish off the last two batters and the Comets won and now have a record of 3-1.
PB: 2 for 4, 2 Runs, 2B, RBI (including a strike out...looking)
MW: 0 for 2, BB, Sac Fly
Pitching Line: MW - 6 1/3 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K (Win)
At the banquet in the evening MW was awarded the MVP of Game 1 - 2 hits and awesome defense made him very worthy of the award. Not to be outdone, PB was graced with his MVP for his pitching (and hitting) efforts in game 2. Our favorite campers are having a great time.
Cumulative Batting after four games:
PB - 6 for 10 (.600), 2 2B's
MW - 4 for 11 (.364)
At Kangaroo Court our favorite ballplayers were not levied any outright fines (no shower shoes, not wearing a helmet batting, cell phones ringing, late to meetings), but PB and MW were assessed $5 fine for being rookies and PB had to throw in another $5 for striking out looking.
