We have made it to Ft Myers today -- but this year will be a bit different - I have my family here. I have been to camp 12 other times and 100% of the time I was the lone ranger from the family. The kids were in school and it didn't make sense for Tanya to make the trip either - she was working and taking care of the household a bit of a chore. This year with both kids in college we decided to not only be here for the camp week but to stay another week. So it looks like this - the family of 4 (Tanya, Ty, & Grant) until mid week (Weds) and then the boys will fly home as they do have college to resume the following week, but hey they get a solid 6 days away from the cold Minnesota season and also get to see what "Dad" has been up to when he gets to camp. Tanya and I will fly back to MN on Fri Jan 17th - we plan to hit Key West (and Dry Tortugas Nat'l Park) and hopefully see a few friends along the way - it will be a nice week. Tanya is not a big fan of watching me play baseball -- but you know what -- maybe this week will win her over. I did tell her that the weather looks real good for baseball (or reading a book from the stands) so she seemed to think that might work out. So I will have 3 fans in the stand this year at a minimum (well at least 2 - I am not sure where my wife is exactly -- probably a fan.....).
Here is the family photo from Thanksgiving -- Tanya, Grant, Ty, and Dad
I have a decent crew -- Ty is taking Aviation up in Grand Forks (Univeristy of North Dakota) and Grant attends Crown College (circa St Bonificus) and is getting a Business degree. Tanya "retired" from General Mills in 2018 and has done a great job of keeping the fort all together with the teenage years and let me focus on my job which has been a big blessing for us.
This year will be different, but hopefully I can play well for them as I don't want to embarrass them.....it will be a fun week.
Sunday the camp starts - it's a warm up day - we will do some drills, stretching, throwing, batting practice, and lots of smiles with familiar faces oh how I wish it was tomorrow.
