The No-Lo's were looking for two victories today, because based on my predictions we were playing two of the lower teams in camp -- a 2-0 start would work well within those predictions - the first game I was on the mound and overall at camp I have had good success throwing on the mound so an expected "w" was on the mind.
No-Lo's were faced up against The Humble "13" and facing a stout pitcher named Dick Peters -- yep, that's his name (and he is a really good guy -- but if you are named Dick Peters how can you not be??) -- well the Bottom of the first came and Humble notched a couple runs off of me - a combination of good hitting, a couple errors, wild pitches -- added up to a quick 2-0 lead for them -- they added another run into the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd for a 4-0 lead. Humble had some timely hits and No-Lo's defense was not nearly as sharp as it has been in the past. Meanwhile the No-Lo offense was getting runners on base -- but failing to get them in -- we left two runners on in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th inning, including leaving the bases loaded in another inning -- all in all we left 13 runners stranded -- no clutch hitting and the only run was scored on a bases loaded walk in the 6th inning -- Humble played a very good clean game, I cannot remember them having an error and the only problem they really had was Peters was a tad wild -- but he did enough to get out of every jam and of course notched a victory. Hitting wise I walked and was hit by a pitch and then grounded out to 2nd base in my final AB. Sorenson was 0 for 3 -- timing was a problem for him but he will get his swing. No-Lo's threw away (literally) a good chance to take a victory -- but hat's off to Humble's they played a real good game and did a good job on the defense!
The afternoon game started off sunny and about 75 degrees -- slight wind going. Sorenson was on the bump for Game 2 -- not a pitcher by trade, but in fantasy camp -- everyone is a pitcher -- so he was dialed up for the game. The No-Lo's (including my two errors at third base) couldn't get out of their funk -- the first inning was ugly ugly ugly -- 3 runs later -- we were down 3-0 before we even got up to bat. Sorenson settled in after the inning and the No-Lo's defense figure it out the rest of the game - the offense finally woke up in the 4th inning (we were losing 3-1) and we put up a crooked number of 4 to take our first lead of the day at 5-3. Sorenson was dealing and put up more 0 on the board - we chipped up a single run in the 5th and 2 more runs in the 6th (Sorenson with an RBI double, Bennett with a Sac Fly RBI) to cap the scoring -- the game ended on an unassisted putout at first base by the star pitcher Sorenson -- No-Lo's in the win column for the victory -- 8-3 final. The bats woke up, the defense woke up after the first inning -- a nice feeling. Sorenson with the CG (complete game) victory -- he scattered around 8 hits, with a few strikeouts and most importantly -- NO Walks -- an excellent outing for Sorenson! Hitting wise I went 0 for 1, walk and Sac Fly still looking for my first hit -- that SHOULD come tomorrow......
Will post game results in a bit -- didn't get two games in the afternoon so will update with standings once I get those figured out.
