Championship games are in the book....a lot of runs were scored

Sometimes you get a feeling about how the day is going to go and sometimes you are correct.

Today in both championship games at Hammond, lots of runs were scored - I kind of figured it might be that way with the pitchers/defense not being so crisp as the camp sort of played out that way.

The Red Division Championship game pitted We are Family against the 40 40 Club -- Family scored in the first four innings to get out to an early 10-0, they gave up 1 run in the 7th and the final score ended up being 10-1. Good hitting, good pitching, and good defense was a part of the formula for them.

The Blue Division championship game had Game 7 and Leftovers playing each other. We scored 4 in the bottom of the first and didn't look back, 3 more in the third and we had a 7-0 lead. Leftovers clawed back with 3 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th and it looked like this was going to be a game as it was 7-4. Game 7 went on to score 6 in the bottom of the 5th to blow the game open at 13-4, another scratch run in the 6th and that is final at 14-4. Like all week, a collective victory, we had Dahl throw 4, Roiger pitch 2, and Doc Karon finish off the game in the 7th. A thing of beauty. We took advantage of walks, timely hits, good baserunning, and stellar defense (we had 3 very good catches in the outfield this afternoon).  And "for a team who can't hit" we did ok.

Tonight is banquet night and award night - what is interesting about our team, I will say we do not have an award winner on this team (Camp MVP, Cy Young, Gold Glove, etc), we had a very balanced team and we all took turns doing the job well.

After starting off the week slow (2 for my first 9), I ended the camp with a bang at the plate -- going 4 for 5 on Thursday, 2 for 3 on Friday, and today I went 3 for 4.....so after struggling the first 4 games got it going in a big way.

Another great week in the books - I will have one more post highlighting the award night and also the Viking game this afternoon!
