Monday - a glorious monday....we played 2 games today

It was a brisk morning but temps in the 50's with a stiff breeze making it seem a bit chilly -- the Lucky 13's were looking to put their best foot forward in playing two games.  My coach Bill "Soup" Campbell informed me early of the plan of holding off on having me pitch today - so this Monday marked a new era for this camper -- I pitched 0 innings on monday!  In fact I can't remember the last time I pitched less than 6 innings on the first day -- so that was the plan.  We also held off on starting our other lefty - Mr. Lott - as he was not going to start either game as well.  Lott is a much better pitcher than myself - so this was an interesting game plan.

Game 1 - we played "In the Bag" -- coached by Al Newman and Eric Rasmussen.
We got off to rough start and were down 2-0 after the first inning - we were the home team.  We started our lefty slinging guy from Connecticut - we will call him JT.  He is italian (along with some other east coast fellows I have as teammates) - he is not fun to hit against - the radar gun might top out at 45 when he is on the bump - but quite effective over the years.
We came out and tied the game up at 2-2 and then took the lead in the the third inning 3-2.  We added three more and they get one and it is 6-3 going into the top of the 7th inning.  In the Bag loads up the bases with 1 out and Soup Campbell decides it is time to bring in Mr. Lott.  He strikes out the last two batters to end the game and Lucky 13's start off with a big W in game 1 - 6-3.  We certainly got "Lucky" with probably at least 3 unearned runs in the game.

Game 2 - the weather is getting better - probably now close to 70 out there so we play the 1-0 Bru-Less team.  They have a good squad all around so knew this was going to be a tight one. We strike for 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to stake out a 2-0 lead early.  The game is cruising along with good pitching and defense and going into the top of the 6th inning it is still 2-0.  The hit parade showed up for the Lucky 13's - we ended up scoring 4 runs to stretch the lead to 6-0.  Our other fine italian (Basille) finished out his 4 innings of work by getting week fly ball out to secure the victory!

Lucky 13's are 2-0 on the day.

Unofficial stats -- 2 for 4, 2 RBI, 2 Runs, 2 BB's -- my best hit was an out (scalded a line drive to left center) and my pop up over the 2nd baseman in the next AB proved to be good enough for an RBI hit....so I guess that's baseball.

Standings:

Lucky 13's     2-0
Uglies            1-1
BruLess         1-1
Stooges          1-1
Warriors         1-1
Last Chance   1-1
Game 7          1-1
In the Bag      0-2

Team Dinner this evening and the autograph cigar party afterwards - Enjoy your monday evening!

2 more games tomorrow -- my body is sore but the hot tub is calling......

  1. thanks for the updates. I'm following closely; looking for info on the official site as well. Really missing being there. Hi to everyone. I'm wearing one of my stack of Fantasy Camp t-shirts under my clerics. Pitch well tomorrow. Good first day; almost every team got a win. - Stan (padre) Mader
