So it was chilly (especially by Florida standards) which would be around 40 degrees and a good stiff wind out there -- so if you live here -- REALLY chilly, if you are one of the many non-snowbird Minnesotans just sort of chilly. We bundled up with jackets, long sleeves, and in some cases hoodies to keep warm during the morning games.
The No-Lo's played You Must Be Kidding in the morning matchup - the big issue of the day was who was going to pitch today. Our team is not stocked with pitching -- in fact, I am the "#1" option and whether he knows it or not -- DS is the #2.pitcher on this staff -- after that -- we don't have a guy on the team who said -- yes let me pitch 7 innings!! So in the morning Coomer takes me aside and asks me what we are going to do -- he tells me, I would love to have you pitch on Weds AM game and let's figure out who is going to pitch this morning -- the great part is game 3 worked out very nicely -- we had the young arm of Adam (whose Dad was playing catcher) was able to get 3 innings in (which is the maximum for players under 30 at camp) and did a great job, pitching three shut out innings and struck out two of the final three batters. Then we got our ace in the hole, Doug, to take the mound. Doug played some catcher yesterday (he wasn't sure if that was a good idea before giving a try) and we got the same response when he was told he was pitching -- Doug stepped up and pitched a very solid 4 innings giving up just 4 runs over those innings -- the great part is those runs were minor -- we got our offense going today by notching 12 runs against YMBK -- and getting our 2nd win for the camp. DS was rocking the bat with 3 hits including two doubles and scoring 3 runs -- I finally got my first hit of the day and walked another time for a ho-hum 1 for 2. We won so that was the most important. Doug (we call him Ole -- take a guess what his last name is) notched the victory and I gave him the ball that I caught for the final out since he would get the W with his 4 innings of work.
The No-Lo's came back in the afternoon and played the Warriors. The Warriors were 1-2 coming into this game but this blogger felt like they are a better team than the record reflects -- I also thought this game would resemble more of a softball game rather than a traditional baseball game (no dominate pitching and good hitting) -- well it was circus of runs. We again had to figure out who was pitching and went with Young Joe (who pitched a couple years ago in a very forgettable outing) -- in the first inning we struck for three runs, but unfortunately we gave up 6 runs in the bottom of the inning - we came back with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning but we gave up another run in the bottom half. It's 7-5 after two innings -- yep a softball game has broke out - the No-Lo's exploded for 7 big runs in the top of the third to take the lead at 12-7 and Young Joe was able to get a 1-2-3 inning to keep the score. The No-Lo's hitting machine was well oil this afternoon -- tacking on another 10 runs over the final 4 innings -- including an 3 run inside park Home Run by DS. I collected 2 more hits and missed, by inches, hitting a rocket down the left field line which curved foul that one hopped the field -- the wind was blowing out to left field so it would have been fun to get one up in the air and see where it landed.
No-Lo's are now sitting pretty with a 3-1 record -- here are the updated standings after Tuesday:
BruBekSki's 4-0
The Humble "13" 4-0
C&C Crew 3-1
Pro's Plus 3-1
No-Lo's 3-1
Padrones 2-2
Warriors 1-3
You Must Be Kidding 0-4
GagNe w/ a Spoon 0-4
Mexican Stingers 0-4
The camp is very top heavy and bottom heavy -- I like where we are at in the middle -- it gives us a good chance to be a team to win a playoff game on Friday.
It's Kangaroo court and those rookies better bring their wallets -- it's going to cost them.....
