Two for Tuesdays....

Another amazing day here in Fort Myers at Lee County complex - forecast was for 82 and sunny -- I do not think it got to 80 but it felt great out there and couldn't ask for better weather to play baseball (well...you can do almost anything in this weather I guess....).

The Horse Racers faced The Pack as both teams were 1-1 after monday's games.  We struck early and often in the first inning as the first two batters were on 2nd and third when I came to the plate.  I laced a line drive over the right center fielder and eased in with a 2 RBI double.  I later scored on a base hit to make the lead 3-0 in the top of the first.   The Pack figured out our pitcher had a hard time finding the plate and by the bottom of the 2nd inning the Racers were down 7-3 after too many walks and a couple timely hits by The Pack to take the lead.  I came up in the 3rd inning and got a base hit and came around to score and we tacked on another run to make it 7-5.   We move toward the top of the sixth and I hit into a fielders choice but later was able to make my way into home for yet another run.  Racers are now down by one.  We move to the top of the 7th inning and we get guys on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs, Ralph G. hit one up the middle and the SS snagged it and stepped on 2nd and the rally was over and the Racers get their 2nd loss.  A tough game as we only gave up runs in the 2nd inning, otherwise we shut the other team down.

Hitting Stats:  2 for 3, 3 runs, double, 2 RBI.

We suit up for the 2nd game -- 1:10pm start time and we are playing the 3-0 Brewskies.  We are feeling pretty good because we have Van Beach on the mound.  Van is a very solid pitcher and he secured the victory in the championship game last year.  We get on the board in the bottom of the first inning by plating a run - I hit a weak pop up over first base, but Dick Bremer was able to snag it as I was looking for a texas league basehit there.  Van is cruising through 4 innings and in the bottom of the fourth we got the bats working.  I led off the inning with a base hit.  We loaded the bases (as I was on third base) and Dan W. came through with a bases clearing double which put us up 4-0, we added another run to make it 5-0.  Van labored through the 5th inning and gave up just a single run as the Brewskies could have easily scored a couple more if our defense didn't make a few nice plays.  We tacked on a run in the sixth inning as I reached on the fielders choice and later scored on a Van Beach sacrifice fly to make it 6-1.   Van finished out a very stellar outing by closing out the Brewkies and their undefeated record by inducing a pop up to third to end the game.   Racers even up their record at 2-2 by winning the game 6-1.

Hitting stats:  1 for 3, 2 runs

Cumulative Stats:  5 for 9, 6 runs, 2 doubles, triple, sac fly, 2 BB's, 4 RBI's
